2009 Barbara Scammell Prose & Poetry Competition

 

Following the superb success of last year's competition, the Creative Writing Group announces that the Second Barbara Scammell Poetry & Prose Competition will take place in September, so get writing now. First and second prize-winners will be awarded in each category.

Members can submit up to two Poetry and two Prose entries. An entry form and copy of the rules may be downloaded via this link.  Entries can be submitted between the 1st and 30th September.

Annual U3A Carrick Photography Competition

 

This was established last year in memory of the late Barbara Scammell, Life President of U3A Carrick.  It remains a very light-hearted competition, open to all U3A Carrick members.

 

Last year's winner was Robyn Hall, with "Ancient & Modern"

 

The subject for 2009 is:                   "Cornish Light"

 

Rules:

 

Any current member of U3A Carrick may enter and must have taken the photograph(s) personally on or after 1st January, 2009.  entries are to be in the form of un-mounted prints, any size up to A4 (210 x 297mm), either in Landscape of Portrait format.

 

On the reverse of each print the following information shall be given:

A maximum of two entries will be accepted.  Entries may be either Film or Digital.  If your entry is digital, the Organiser would also welcome an electronic copy, either on CD-ROM or by e-mail (see below), in JPEG format, to assist in record-keeping. 

 

Entries may be delivered by hand at any time before 30th October to the Organiser, or any Committee member, in a sealed envelope marked "U3A Carrick Photo Competition" at any of the main meetings held at Falmouth, Perranwell or Truro.  Alternatively, they may be sent before the final date to the Organiser, address details below. 

 

Judging will take place during November.  Discussions of the entries and the prize-giving will take place at Truro Town Hall meeting on 15th December at 2.00pm.  All entries will be on display at that meeting and may be collected after the meeting, if desired.

 

U3A Carrick Photographer of the Year

 

First Prize:  The Barbara Scammell Memorial Cup (To be held for 12 months),

     plus £25.00 in Jessops Gift Tokens

 

Runner Up:  £10.00 in Jessops Gift Tokens

 

Please note that we cannot return entries.  If required, prints should be collected following the prize-giving.
