Craft :

The craft group became really creative at their meeting in March. They made Easter decorations by adding ribbons, beads, braids etc to painted polystyrene ‘eggs’. The ‘eggs’ could be suspended from a twig and set within a spring flower arrangement.  Concentration and nimble fingers were needed for this activity but much fun was had – and interest from other Spires café customers!  Some photographs are included.
From April, we have returned to our long term project and craft, crochet, to learn more stitches and to check on progress towards the completion of a rug.
We still have space for one or two more people, so if you wish to find out more please contact me.

Our stall at Perranwell Village Event in 2017

Love your sewing machine!

Has it lurked unhappily in the cupboard under the stairs for the past fifteen years?  Have you forgotten how to thread it?  Scared of breaking it?  Lost the manual?

Why not dust it off and bring it along to our group, held in the South Room of Perranwell Centre on the first and third Tuesday mornings of the month from 9.30 – 12.30.  You will be made very welcome in our friendly and supportive group.  Many members were nervous beginners when we started in September 2016, but are now confidently tackling various types of sewing, and producing some lovely work.

We will have our June 2019 meetings on 4th and 18th June, then have a two month break, and start again as usual on the first and third Tuesday mornings from 3rd September.

We have made cushion covers, shopping bags, oven gloves, sunhats, zipped toiletry bags, pencil cases, Christmas decorations, cases for our cutting mats and sewing accessories, and our latest project is a travel jewellery case.

We are not a quilting group but we have covered some appliqué and patchwork designs which we’ve used as bag and cushion fronts; and recently several members started on dressmaking.

Most of the patterns are my own design and I photograph and write the patterns, which are free, so we have no issues with copyright.  I email these in advance of our meetings for members to print, so they know what fabric and notions to bring.  I provide refreshments which are available all through the sessions, for a contribution of 50p.

If you’re interested to give our group a try, please ring me first for a chat on 01209 860899.  I have Call Guardian on the phone, so you’ll be asked to say your name and press the hash key before the phone rings for me, but please don’t be put off – it’s only there to deter unwanted marketing calls!
